Barefoot Scuba Resort is located at the exquisite Havelock Island of Andaman and Nicobar in India. With 15 well-experienced instructors, 2 efficient administrative staff, 7 skilled boat captains, and over 20 years of operations, we are one of the largest and oldest dive centres in India. We are joyed to have been a part of life-changing scuba diving experiences for tens of thousands of individuals and look forward to contributing to many more. Being a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre, we have also nurtured hundreds of dive professionals who are now spread across the globe.

Meet the awesome team behind all those wonderful experiences at Barefoot.

01 Vinod Bondi

Head of Operations & PADI Course Director

The man-in-charge at Barefoot Scuba, Vinod, is the most experienced instructor on the team. Prior to this, he was teaching in the Cayman Islands, where he was actively involved in training a capable breed of dive professionals. He enjoys teaching and has loved doing it before his love for diving came about. His childhood and his previous Merchant Navy career have kept him close to the sea all through his life.  In his free time, Vinod enjoys taking pictures of the night sky and widening his understanding of astronomy. He also enjoys looking for the little life forms on the reef and spots macro from what seems like a mile to others.

07 PADI Speciality courses

Base Leader - Havelock & PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer

Hailing from the mountains in the northern part of the country, Avi, as he is popularly known, hadn’t gone for a swim in the sea until he was 21. Today, this PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer is our staff who spends the most amount of time on the island in a year. If you visit us in the low season, chances are, you’ll still meet Avtar, keeping a check on the servicing of tanks. If you end up underwater with this guy, he will most likely enamour you with a flurry of bubble rings and may even teach you how to perfect one. He is a parent to Spidey, one of the cats you are likely to meet at Barefoot Scuba.

If Monster were a human, she would’ve made an accomplished instructor who is resilient, determined and clever. She is the only one, apart from the instructor trainers, who takes part in all the Instructor Development Courses conducted at Barefoot Scuba. Seen here is a picture of her at the December 2019 IDC. She is in charge of not letting anyone with four legs enter the property, except for those brought in and raised by the humans of the dive shop much to her displeasure. She has the astonishing acumen to sense cat-persons and nuzzles up to them when they are least expecting. It really is an honour if she allows you to pet her.

15 Mia Raghavi

Assistant Manager - Sales and Marketing & PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

Mia is sometimes Missing In Action from the Havelock dive centre because of her active role in the marketing side of things at the Bangalore office. She spends half the season diving every day and the other half living an office life back in the city. She previously worked in public relations after getting a Master’s degree in Strategic Communication and PR.

Mia charms her divers with her gentle nature. She enjoys reading and writing and has also authored a book.

03 Rylan Pereira

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

Rylan, second to the most experienced instructor on the dive team, was once an Open Water Diver student at Barefoot Scuba. He completed all his training right here and then stayed on to become a part of the Havelock troupe of instructors. Often to be found dismantling and reassembling electronic gadgets, Rylan would probably make for a very useful engineer somewhere. In the meantime, we depend on his very capable hands to service our regulators.

Rylan is usually happy to spend his free time on the beach with a frisbee or bodyboard and likes to take off on underwater photography missions at the training reef.

04 Jobin Joseph

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

Having gotten weary of scrolling through Excel sheets, Jobin left the corporate world for the world of scuba diving. Since childhood, he has loved being in the water, and today he has made the ocean his office and thoroughly enjoys his work. He is a magician when it comes to fixing regulators and other scuba equipment.

Jobin enjoys having a hearty laugh all the time and diving with him is sure to be a real fun experience.

05 Shonali Ghosal

PADI Master Instructor

This PADI Master Instructor had her first experience of diving when she was only 14 years old. She is now living out a childhood dream as a part of the team at Havelock. Prior to this stint, Shonali was a journalist based in New Delhi. She usually chooses to spend surface intervals snorkelling rather than drying off on the boat, always hopeful of a surprise visit from unusual marine life. In her free time, Shonali would abandon the world for her Kindle and a hammock on the beach.

06 Kirtan Shah

PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer

If you’re having trouble with his name, he shortens it and introduces himself as KD. Kirtan spent years visiting Barefoot Scuba as a guest before he hopped over onto the other side of the counter. Kirtan has a Master’s in Biomedical Engineering and is also a Master Scuba Diver Trainer. In his personal time, he teaches Pranic Healing and is drawn to meditation and spiritual pursuits.

07 Shruti Chakraborty

PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer

Resident fairy dog-mother, Shruti has a graduate degree in journalism and was previously covering young entrepreneurs and start-ups for a business news publication before getting hooked to diving. She is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer and is most likely to be spotted wearing at least one thing that is hot-pink in colour. She has completed her training at Havelock.

She enjoys her playtime with the dogs on the beach the most. Secretly though, she is also quite the cat-person and might come by to familiarise you with the dive centre cat Monster.

08 Gaurav Dwivedi

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

Gaurav is a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor with the Havelock team. He responds to “Gogo” quicker than his original name though. The nickname seems to have stuck. Gaurav came to Havelock as a bartender, got drawn to the life and ways of the dive staff, and chose to become an instructor instead.

He also dabbles in a bit of DJing in his free time. He sports a few tattoos of his favourite marine creatures that he is happy to show if you ask him to.

09 Sada Dutta

PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer

Having trouble with his name? Don’t worry, we just call him Sada too. A part of his childhood was spent on Little Andaman, where he saw the wrath of the tsunami that affected these islands in 2006. Sada is a PADI MSDT at Barefoot Scuba and is usually to be found running off to the playground with his football shoes when he gets some free time. Look out for some impeccable dance moves, and in water, look forward to getting a mountain of patience from this guy.

10 Amit Kumar

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
Growing up in the picturesque Haldwani-Nainital region, Amit has always had a love for water and used to often go swimming in the lake.

11 Sayali Ranadive

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

Sayali came to Havelock for the first time on a holiday in 2015 and eventually chose to make the island her home. She has spent most of her life in Mumbai and has a background in IT. She studied Artificial Intelligence during her Master’s degree. She has, however, left all that behind to become an instructor at Barefoot Scuba.

Her spirit animal is a Panda. She usually enjoys talking about movies and tends to remember dialogues from the many movies that she has seen; both Hollywood and Bollywood.

13 Animish Limaye

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

Animish is normally standing comfortably on the deep end of many swimming pools. Sometimes it's just waist deep water for him where many others are on their tiptoes. Standing at six foot-something, Animish, is an Open Water Scuba Instructor at Barefoot. He is also one of the staff members who has been trained here. He will often mention his love for basketball and his sister, who plays for the Indian women’s national basketball team.

He enjoys socialising and will make the effort to go and make friends with dive staff across the island. He has previously also worked in Goa, Zanzibar, and the Maldives.

14 Ravi Singh Rajput

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor

Ravi came to Havelock island from the mountains with a singular goal: to learn how to swim and become a diving instructor. His passion for work shows in the form of superior enthusiasm in the water. Always smiling and always ready to engage in a conversation, he has a shedload of interesting life stories that never get old even when we hear for the umpteenth time. A skilled mixologist, he has the most interesting cocktail recipes and often volunteers to whip up a quick one.

12 Jack Percy

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
